CLASSICAL PILATES EQUIPMENTS
That’s why Pilates equipment is completely different from the exercise machines that you might find in a gym and is suitable for people of all ages and fitness levels
Welcome to the world of Joseph Pilates' apparatus!
The Reformer:
It is used to perform over 100 different Pilates exercises.
The Cadillac:
The Cadillac, (occasionally referred to as the Trap Table), is a large apparatus with springs, poles, and trapeze. It was designed to address specific rehabilitative and alignment needs as well as enable deep stretching and symmetrical movement.
Various poles, bars, springs and straps hang from its frame, allowing around 80 different exercises to be performed.
It is particularly good at strengthening back and abdominal muscles and improving flexibility too.
The Wunda Chair:
The design of the Wunda Chair allows exercises from many different positions.
It can convert to an ergonomic chair for sitting but only after the workout!
The Ladder Barrel:
It is used to support the back, shoulders, hips, thighs and neck while performing certain Pilates stretching exercises.
The most commonly performed exercises performed on the Ladder Barrel concentrate on spinal extension.
The Ladder Barrel permits both gentle stretching as well as very challenging exercises.
The Wall Unit:
A wall unit is fitted with springs, a push-through bar, ankle and thigh cuffs, loops and handles. It allows exercises usually practiced on the “Cadillac”. It is used for private sessions or group classes.
The Pilates Magic Circle:
The Pilates magic circle is a flexible ring, usually metal, with padded handles, about 13 inches in diameter. It provides resistance for faster, more targeted toning, improving muscle strength throughout the body, especially in problem areas like the inner and outer thighs, upper arms, and chest.
The Pilates Mat:
Alongside exercises on his
specifically
designed equipment,
Joseph
Pilates created a whole series of exercises that can be performed on a
basic mat either in a studio environment or at home.
Once you become
familiar with the flow and the order of the exercises, we
encourage you
to practice also at home as Joseph firmly believed that ten minutes a
day was better than nothing!
